So called "Gay Marriage" is Legal in MI

Michigan judge strikes down a law that bans same sex marriage. In 2004, the people in Michigan voted to keep the marriage between one man and one women Friday March 21, 2014, Judge Bernard Friedman went directly against the will of the people and lifted the ban against so called “gay marriage.”

The judge went a step further and did not issue a stay on the law. A stay postpones immediate action pending appeal. Since he did not issue a stay, county clerks offices can start allowing gay marriage right away. In fact Washtenaw County (which is normally closed on Saturdays) will be open this Saturday to issue marriage licenses to gay couples and they will waive the three day requirement for a marriage license.

The Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette asked a higher court to order stay citing the Supreme Court previous decision which allowed a stay in similar proceeding in the state of Utah. Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron vocalized his disapproval of the court ruling "As I said with my brother bishops in Michigan, marriage has come to us as a gift of God in establishing the order of nature. The Catholic community in southeast Michigan will continue to give witness to the truth that marriage is between one man and one woman, which is the foundation for the flourishing of society.”

UPDATE: The US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals decided “To allow a more reasoned consideration of the motion to stay, it is ordered that the district court judgment is temporarily stayed until Wednesday[.]” Meaning that homosexual marriages can not be preformed in Michigan until at least Wednesday. On or before Wednesday the US 6th Circuit Court of Appeals will decided if the motion will be stayed (postponed) until the court actually gets a chance to hear the appeal.
